Mughal Empire chapter removes from 12th History NCERT book | Detailed discussions.
Change is the rule of the world so we should welcome the good change. Recently NCERT has curtailed some chapters from the 12th NCERT text book. In this content we shall try to know why it was so important to remove some chapters and add on some new ones.
In year 2022, NCERT notified changes in many subjects - Science, political science, history or other subjects. But the changes in history especially curtailing of Mughal Empire chapter drew a flak from many people. In class 7th history book, chapters of Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Empire and many topics are said to be removed from the syllabus. The elaborate discussion on reaching out or establish his hold over/ or presence of the Delhi Sultanate in Southern India in the reign of Balban, Khilji and the definition of Masjid have been removed from this chapter.
Similarly if we talk about the Mughal Empire, a number of titles, exaggerated contents about Babur, Akbar, and Shahjaha etc. have been removed from the syllabus. Kings and chronicle of the Mughal codes of class 12th NCERT book, manuscripts related to Mughals have been scraped from the syllabus.
Political Science of class 12th mentioned Gujarat riots 2002 in the form of news, NHRC reports, pictures of riots in the last two pages of the book, but now it has been completely removed. In Sociology of class 12, it tells us if you use religion as an instrument in politics then what would be its ramifications?. Sikh riot of 1984 is also has been removed from the syllabus.
Sociology of class 12, included a five paged long chapter based on Emergency in Indira Gandhi reign, has also been removed completely.
Why is it being protested?
It is considered that, with this move the government trying to target one community in the country, and this will lead a communal tensions across India. A fear of violence among minority is also being seen. If this happen so then it will impact on our diversity, and our social order. The content related to Gujarat riot was removed and is being seen as a political motivated step. There is also an allegation made on NCERT with regard to Mahatma Gandhi and his assassination. People also blaming the government that it is trying to portray its ideology shaping NCERT sync with its ideology.
Stand of NCERT.
NCERT has cleary ruled out the allegations made my some groups, saying the changes made in the books are as per the new guidelines of NEP 2020 and tried to make more rationality of courses. He argued that during Corona period, Children suffered most the wrath of the Corona pandemic, NCERT also tried to facilitate and made more rational of the subjects.
The process of rationalisation not only took place in history, but changes also occurred in the books of hindi, english, science, etc.
In the NEP 2020, it entails mainly on quality contents, not on quantity contents.
Conclusion.
No doubt, history is a chain of events and we can't understand the present until we understand the past. But history should be seen as a subject, and in the fast pace of life it was felt necessary to bring about changes in the courses so that our next generations learn something new rather than political motivated contents of governments.
The new course also entails Indianisation. We have been reading the scraped chapters since the formations of NCERT, but the time has been changed and we must keep our pace with the time. The new chapters will show a new perspective in the minds of people uniformly.
