Recently ILO an international body published it's annual report 2022, saying India's employment deterioting during the pandemic that has hardly hit both the economy as well as human resource. The report published by the name of "youth employment deterioting in India", ILO reported.
What is the ILO?
Before we start the journey of writing about the conditions of employment in India, good to read about the ILO. ILO stands for international labour organization, founded in 1919, headquartered in janeva, Switzerland. It was formed through the Treaty of Versailles 1919. It is a trilateral institution consisted of governments, employers and labour organizations.
It has 187 members and has the same number of mandatory provisions that have to follow by it's members. Came in 1946, being the main agency of the UNO.
Objective
Establishing Social justice and peace in the world. To promote labour rights and human rights on the global level. It also resolves social and labour issues. It reports annually show the conditions of workers, make laws and recommendations to it's members.
Structure
ILO has three structures
1. International labour conference: it makes labour policies and standards.
2. Governing body: also called executive council held thrice meeting in a year.
3 international labour office: centre of all activities.
Reports
The 15-24 age group youths are hardly affected. Others age groups also affected due to pandemic but youths faced more unemployment. Youth women suffered more than youth males. 23.3 per cent increament in the unemployment over the last two years. India experienced severely loss of employment.
In India schools were closed for 18 months. Out of 24 crores children in India, 6 percent from rular areas, and 23 percent from urban areas got online education during pandemic. Due to continue closing of schools, children faced learning regression.
Development
MNREGA, proved it's potential to cater jobs to the unskilled rural people who returned to their homeland after cities were being imposed a complete lockdown. Especially women got jobs in this job guaranteed act.
Government also helped to the organised sectors.

In the world's labour markets, India's male workers contributes 16 percent while women workers contributes 5 percent. The Indian women have to work as domestic chores but their contributions are ignored. Their conditions are not good, they face many problems at workplaces, sexual assault and harrasment is one of them.
Way forward
The government must emphasise on the green economy and the blue economy, experts tell that these sectors could generate employment in millions in the coming years, so the government must think over it and also devise other options for the welfare of the people of India.
