National Girl Child Day is observed every year on 24 of January since 2008. It is celebrated by Ministry of  Women and Child Development.

National Girl Child is celebrated on 24 of January every year since 2008. This day is very significant because it is associated with our history. This is celebrated by Ministry of Women and Child  Development, create awareness about the inequalities faces the girls and also advocating the rights of girls who have no access to education, health and have less participation in decision making.

Theme, History and its Significance 

The theme of this year is "Digital Generation, Our Generation". This day has its great significance that is why it is observed. On 24 January, former prime minister and first lady prime minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi become the PM of India, so to make this more remarkable and memorable, it was decided to observe National Girl Child Day the same day and is celebrated since 2008. 

Objective 

1. To promote the welfare of the girl child.

2. To create awareness among the people to protect and raise children in terms of education, health and treat equal in all fields.

3. To avoid any kinds of discrimination with girls at home or outside in the world.

4. To welcome them, and shun female infanticide.

5. To educate people at large about the importance of girl child, declining sex ratio, etc. in the mind of commons.

6. To create a safe environment for girls to live safely inside or outside their homes.
