Speech on Guru Purnima | Vyasa Purnima | School Assembly
Good morning assembly, first of all i am wishing you a happy Guru Purnima. I am very thankful for giving me an opportunity to say something on Guru Purnima, which is also called Vyasa Purnima comes in the month of Ashadh as per Hindu Calender, is celebrated to mark the birth respect of Maharshi Vyasa and to honour all the teachers.
India is a land of Gurus from its ancient times and the gurus are worshipped like god. Parents are the first guru of a child. But merely giving birth is not enough. The gurus shape the future of a child, teaches how to live. He shows the direction on which his pupils walk on. Every students without gurus are same but when there is a entry guru to someones life, it makes his or her life light, knowledgeable and, fearless. A person who have the blessings of his gurus can do any difficult task easily and get the desired results. A teacher as a facilitator try to unleash your potential, untapped your undiscovered knowledge and show you a path on which walking you get your goal.
This traditional festival of Guru Purnima is celebrated in both Hindu and Buddhism culture. In this month of Ashadh, Maharshi Vayasa was born. Gautam Buddha was also taught by gurus - He learned Sankhya Darshan from Alarkalam and Yoga Darshan by RudrakramPutra. Gautam Buddha after his enlighenment he moved towards Sarnath to disseminate Buddhism, where he delivered his first sermon known as DharmaChakraPriwartana. People of Buddhism also celebrates this festival with great fervour. Similarly Lord Rama, Krishna, Vishnu all had attained knowledge by the Gurus.
The contributions of teachers/scholars both men and women can be traced back to ancient time. In Rigveda, there were many women scholars like Apala, Sachi, Palmi, Kakshavriti and Ghosha, who had made great contribution in the making of Rigveda. So on this auspicious day we should also honour the teachers.
However our intelligence become high, the role of a teacher will never end. The gurus are the guides of the society who shape up the future. I am ending my speech again conveying my gratitude and respect to all teachers present here.
