1. Governor as chancellor can independently appoint VCs, state can't interfere.
- The Supreme Court ruled that Governor as Chancellor of Universities are to act independent of state governments for appointment of Vice Chancellors.
- The Supreme Court also quashed Knnur University VC's reappointment, terming it as "unwarranted interference" by the Kerala government.
- The verdict which also underscores the autonomous powers conferred on the governor to conduct the affairs of university as the chancellor.
2. NMC changes logo, adds image of Ayurveda god.
- The National Medical Commission has modified its logo, dropping the national emblem and including the photo of Dhanvantri - an avatar of Lord Vishnu who is referred to as the god of Ayurveda in the Purans.

1. Kissinger, who shaped Cold War history, dies.
- Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, the diplomat, who dominated foreign policy as the US extricated itself from Vietnam and broke down barriers with China, died Wednesday.
2. 2023 hottest year ever, brace for warmer 2024.
- The World Meteorological Organisation on Thursday warned that the coming year may be worse as the El Nino event of this year is likely to "further fuel the heat in 2024"
