- Union home minister Amit Shah notified the implementation of the much awaited citizenship amendment act (CAA 2019), which was passed in parliament and also got president assent in 2019, was put on hold due to massive protests across India led to several deaths and damages of properties.

- The CAA 2019 gives citizenship to the non-Muslims immigrants who were prosecuted in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan, arrived India before December 31, 2014 will be granted the citizenship of India.
