Plants are more than Greenery.

Plants are more than Greenery.

Dear Readers, in this content we shall try to understand about one of the most valuable things of the Earth, that is plant. No matter what we call them by their different names, for different species both endemic and exotic, but how does it influence our lives!, how is it integrated with our culture ? and moreover bolstering our economy.

So friends i have put in best instincts before you so that you would be enjoying while reading and will also make a cause why we should read about plants, an inexhaustible resource.

Topics to be covered.

  • emergence of plants on our Earth.
  • different types of flora found in India.
    •  Role of medicinal plants in health sector.
    • Role of forest plants in manufacturing.
    • Some sacred groves - a wealth of diverse and rare species.
    • nation and states use national symbols, invoked from some specific plants.

Dating back to its origin.

You wonder to know that the advent of humans on the earth was about 380 crore years ago and 250-300 crore years ago of photosynthesis. At the initial stage there was less oxygen on our earth, but one of  the main causes of increasing oxygen was Photosynthesis. Algae was come in about 300 crore years ago, followed by unicellular and multicellular species.

Position of India in the World.

India comes in the list of World's top 12 bio-diversities. And India is very fortunate to have all kinds of vegetation found here - Tropical rainy, deciduous, Temperate evergreen, deciduous, thorny bushes, Tundra, Alpine and mangroves.

India ranks 10th in terms of vegetation and 4th in the Asia. Here total 15 thousands types of flowers are grown here which accounts for 6% in the world.

Role of Medicinal plants in the health sector.

As we know, people of ancient times used herbal plants in their medical treatment. A detailed account of this knowledge can be traced back to 'Charak Sahita', an old grantha or book, where a varieties of medicines developed with the help of plants only.

Feeling ashamed to see the Europeans are using our ancient medicinal legacy in their profession by claiming their exclusive rights on them by making them patent.

Role of plants in manufacturing

Forest based industries procure their raw-materials from forests. Since forest is renewable resource, helping in economy. Rubber industries, paper industries, cotton textile industries are the best examples that outlines the importance of plants used for manufacturing. So the latex or sap, wood pulp or cotton balls, all are obtained from plants.

Some sacred groves - a wealth of diverse and rare species.

you might be surprised to know that there are dozens of plants species that are used as sacred purposes : marriages, festivals and cultural events, etc. And here we shall see how these plants are intertwined with our culture and day to day phenomenon of our lives.

you might have observed the use of tamarind and the use of mango leaf during marriages. It is very prevalent in North India and Bihar where i hail from. Other sacred groves are tulsi, kadam, neem, peepal, etc.

Nation and states use national symbols, invoked from some specific plants

State use plants as symbols to represent their identity and culture and promote environmental awareness. As we know plants vary from place to place depends upon several factors - climate, soil, water, topography, rainfall, etc. Peepal tree is the symbol associated with Gautam Buddha who got enlightenment sitting near it.

Similarly the Ashoka tree's name comes sanskrit word and literally means 'sorrow -less'. In concise these plants are associated with our culture, traditions and have a deep roots inside our vedic texts.

 Conclusion.

So here we have arrived at a conclusion that plants are more than greenery. We depends on plants and vice-versa. It has potential to help all kind of species including human being to help them from all sides. Not only providing a variety of food stuffs to sustain life, but also making a significant role in the national growth.

Tarique Rahman returns Bangladesh after 17 years of self exile to UK. BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman returns Bangladesh after 17 years of self-exile, triggers a ray of hope among people especially minorities living there whose lives are at stake due to frequent incidents of violence. His return can be seen as ending of BNP leadership vacuum and projecting him as a Prime Ministerial post. When he exiled Bangladesh in 2008, never believed he would return Bangladesh but this time as there is no big party before him and general election scheduled on February 12 in 2026, giving him a golden chance to come to power through election. But one of the biggest intersting things is that some members of NCP still don't want to ally with jamaat e Islami. This jamaat e Islami has a very controversial historical records and divisise policy. This jamaat e Islami had waged a war in Bangladesh and has a great sympathy with Pakistan. During military rule in Bangladesh, Shiekh Mujibur Rahman w...
