Tarique Rahman returns Bangladesh after 17 years of self exile to UK.
BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman returns Bangladesh after 17 years of self-exile, triggers a ray of hope among people especially minorities living there whose lives are at stake due to frequent incidents of violence.
His return can be seen as ending of BNP leadership vacuum and projecting him as a Prime Ministerial post. When he exiled Bangladesh in 2008, never believed he would return Bangladesh but this time as there is no big party before him and general election scheduled on February 12 in 2026, giving him a golden chance to come to power through election.
But one of the biggest intersting things is that some members of NCP still don't want to ally with jamaat e Islami. This jamaat e Islami has a very controversial historical records and divisise policy. This jamaat e Islami had waged a war in Bangladesh and has a great sympathy with Pakistan. During military rule in Bangladesh, Shiekh Mujibur Rahman was assinaated and thousands were killed.
For this all, many members of NCP hesitate to join with jamaat e Islami.
Bangladesh's first woman Prime Minister Khalida Zia died on Tuesday due to prolonged illness has once again open the gate of sympathy for the Tarique Rahman, an acting chairperson of BNP and son of Khalida Zia. Indian foreign minister S. Jaishankar is to visit on her funeral ceremony. His visit to Bangladesh gives a ray hope to restore relationship between two nations on track.
