Significance of the Republic Day

On this day the president of India hoist our national flag. This day is basically dedicated to our constitution framers who gave immense contributions in the making of constitution. Different committees were formed tasked with distinct subjects, members of the constituent assembly were directly elected from pan- India, in spite of ethnic diversity in terms of languages, caste, colour , creed, religion, and birth place.

A number of changes took place while drafting the constitution. Although we took 2 years 11 months and 17 days for its completion, we have a very quality, rationale, inclusive, sustainable, not more rigid nor more flexible, adoptable, acceptable by all. The framers left no stone unturned in the making of the constitution. Dr. Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar, head of the Drafting committee, was given law ministry in the republic India. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, who was the chairman of the constituent assembly become the first president of the republic India and Pd. Nehru become the first prime minister of India.

"India is our country and the rules in which we have to live for long, must be framed by Indians, not by the British". Pd. Nehru emphasised on self administration.

History of the Republic Day

India celebrates its Republic Day every year on 26th January since 1950. Because the Indian constitution was first implemented on 26 January 1950 and India become a Republic country. Although India got independence on 15th of August 1947, the process of making constitution was continue and it was completed on 26 November 1949, so on this day we observe Constitution Day. But India had to select a date for implementation of this newly made constitution.
To know why India chose 26 January , its answer is deeply rooted in our history and we must go through the cause. In December 1929 Lahore session of congress, Pd. Jawaharlal Nehru, announced "Poorna Swaraj" and said India would celebrate its independence day on 26 January 1930. And on this date Pd. Nehru with many congress leaders unfurled the tricolour and celebrated the Independence Day first time on the bank of Ravi river, since then India has been celebrating its independence day on 26 January. But India got independence on 15th of August, 1947 and our constitution was completed on 26 November 1949, so mark the importance of 26 January, India decided to celebrate its republic day on 26 January every year.
