UN Day needs your attention.

Hi guys welcome to Gyan Amrit Coaching. In this content we shall try to learn about United Nations and their roles, in this content we will also see the challenges faced by the UN in the 21st century.

UN day is celebrated every year on 24th October to mark the anniversary of foundation of the day. This day reminds the importance of peace, security and cooperation among countries and provides a platform for discussion. After the devastating World War II , it was created to promote peace and security and prevent future world war. 

Every year theme of the UN day varries.

Roles of the UN.

1. To promote peace, security and cooperation. This was the main objective behind the formation of UN.

2. To prevent future wars. As we know the the last world war was fought in 1945 since then no world war has happened, so it is one of the big achievements of the UN which prevents future war like world war.

3. It send peace keeping forces to conflict zones. The United Nation has its own armed forces which is sent to other countries were conflicts arises.  

4. Help in ceasefire agreement. In case of war if two countries are engaged in war for months or year then here the role of United Nation become very important to resolve the dispute and bring them together for ceasefire.

5. It supports countries recovering from wars . If two countries are in war and there are economic losses to countries then it come forward for help each other in the form of economic help to reboost their economy and infrastructure to bring the country again in the mainstream of development.

6. Through UNSC, it takes measures to prevent or end wars and resolve international disputes through dialogue and diplomacy. 

7. The UN also works to promote human rights and ensure for all people. United Nation ensure human rights should not be violated during war.

8. Plays a major role in social and economic development. United Nation also play the important role for the growth of economy and cultural development of a country therefore, it works with different agencies like UNESCO which work to enhance their culture and social expansion. These Agencies are UNICEF, WHO, UNESCO, FAO.

9. It also make efforts to tackle global challenges like climate change, pandemic and humanitarian crisis. The United Nation also play important role in climate controllation and with the help of other agencies it gives recommendations for the other countries and entrusted tasks to follow in order to control climate change.

Despite all, the United Nations in the 21st century facing several challenges like.

Challenges before UN.

1. Lack of unity.  There is a lack of unity between five permanent members of United Nation security council these are US ,UK ,France ,Russia and China. Sometimes there personal interest overshadowed the global peace and security.

2. Global terrorism and regional conflicts. Since the formation of United Nation it has not defined a proper definition of terrorism and could not work for terrorism. No country in the world is safe against terrorism even the developed countries like us Britain France are facing terrorism.

3. UN also faces issues related to climate change and environmental degradation. It has been seen that some countries especially the member of United Nation security council do not follow the UN recommendation or it's guidelines for example us give up to abide the ideas of cop 21 held in France in 2015

4. Reforms within the UN. It has been a huge demand from many countries to bring reformation in the UN structure especially in United Nation security council and to add more members in the unsc so that there should be an equitable and reliable administration can be placed in the UN administration.
